How does Bilingual Education in Indonesia Challenge the Teachers?

Many schools in Indonesia recently offer bilingual education as part of their school program to attract the students so that they will enroll the school and fulfill the classes. The International Standard School initiates English bilingual classes here in Indonesia.  These classes partially or fully provide the instruction in English; therefore, the teachers should have a good proficiency in English to conduct the learning process during class. Since bilingual education is quite new program, most of the teachers have some troubles to cope with; such as, lack of proficiency in general and instructional English, intellectual gap and competition among bilingual teachers, and less motivation to learn English further.
Firstly, the lack of proficiency in general and instructional English that the teachers have seems to be a huge problem in comprehending the instruction that is shown in the text books. While the teachers are dealing with their struggles in comprehending how to pass the lessons to the students using English, there are few students barely can understand the lessons in a very complicated way. Especially, when the students about to learn a new concept, but the teachers are not competent enough dealing with it, then misunderstanding and chaos will happen. We may not blame the teachers completely, because some of them only encounter English as a foreign language course during high schools and college years. Even, the teacher hiring policy does not meet the requirement of English skill, except for English teacher, yet they have to teach the students using English as their responsibility.
Secondly, while the growing of bilingual classes seems to be a positive trend, but there has been an intellectual gap and competition among bilingual teachers. Teachers with more proficiency in English appear to be arrogant and tend to ignore other teachers who still need their help to work together to provide the students with clear instruction. This condition creates bad circumstances for the teachers that turn out to be ugly for the students in class. A good team work among the teachers is needed to succeed bilingual classes and creates high quality students who are able to compete in international world wide with their capability to understand English.
Thirdly, those two previous reasons bring in to the less motivation of the teacher to learn English in order to improve their English proficiency and be good bilingual teachers. They are hopeless and think that they will never learn English better, because others left them behind. Teachers hold the important role while in class. When the teachers are less motivated, it may cause them to be less successful in teaching a foreign language. The students will be also affected for struggling to understand the lessons, being irritated of the teachers who lack of motivation, and finally they will fail in all the lessons. Teachers need to consider about that and try the best as they can to make the students feel comfortable in class, and guide the students to reach their goal.
In short, implementing bilingual education in Indonesia affects the teachers in some ways; such as, struggling of how to teach the students because of their lack proficiency in English, some of the teachers may have more capability in English tends to create a huge wall with others who have less capability that create bad atmosphere for the teachers themselves and for their students, because of those two reasons finally leads the teachers to have less motivation and curiosity in learning English.
